Our microplate Spacers are designed to permit the atmosphere surrounding a stack of deep or with shallow well microplates to enter the head space above the liquid in individual wells and react with the well contents. This permits agitation of the microplate contents for long periods of time without depleting the atmosphere above the liquid when plates are stacked tightly above each other. The atmosphere may be ordinary room air, CO2 inside of an Incubator, or in virtually any other gas environment.

These spacers are molded from glass reinforced Nylon plastic, which is resistant to many solvents and cleaning solutions. They were designed to fit between and interlock with almost every commonly used microplate in use today.

When using these spacers with our Vertical Shakers, you must apply a suitable self-adhesive Cover Seal which is hydrophobic, in order to retain liquid while allowing the surrounding gas to pass through. Otherwise, the extremely high acceleration forces will cause the liquid in the wells to splash out.
